Teacher to Students- Listen & Repeat (some or all)
Hello, Hi, Hey, Howdy, G’day, Good Morning, Hola, Aloha, Bon Jour, Bon Dia, Bon Journo, Ni Hao, Konnichiwa, Anyohaseyo, Sambaino, Kiola, Selamat Pagi (am) (pm-Siang), Shalom, Jambo, Asalamalekum, Zzdrastvet-yah, Namaste.
Janken 4’s- Warm-Up/Review/Conversation Skills Practice- 5 minutes
ALT/HRT: Janken and do the conversation first together, then with a few
students to practice/demonstrate.
Students: Each student Janken and Converse with 3 others in groups of 4
Blackboard:
- W)Can you play baseball?
- L1)Yes, I can. I can play baseball.
- L2)No, I can’t. I can’t play baseball.
Introduction- Words students already know- 10 minutes
Blackboard- Boxes in order like map on page 30-31 (3 across, 4 down, 1 long box across bottom. Big enough to write names in English and Japanese. Number the boxes 1-13.)
Text- pages 30-31
Students- In seat pairs, see if you know the place names in English.
HRT- Begin after student pairs have a minute or two- Point to a box, ASK students the name in Japanese and WRITE it on the blackboard.
ALT- After the HRT, ask students: “What’s eki in English?” Write the name in English (park, book shop, school, dept. store, flower shop, police station, bank, restaurant, hospital, fire station, barber, post office, train station).
Chant-Where is the barber?- 6 minutes
Blackboard-
- Where clap-clap 2X Where is the barber? clap-clap-clap
- Go straight clap-clap
- Turn right clap-clap
- Turn left clap-clap
- STOP!
Demonstration/Chant- 7 minutes
Materials- Face markers with magnets on back
HRT-Use the chant to ask the ALT, “Where is the OO?”
ALT-Use the chant to answer the HRT’s question, “Where is the OO?” Move the face markers each time, moving only one intersection at a time. After several times, ask the students if they can help you sing and move the marker.
Students- Sing along when you can. Help the teachers sing when/if you can.
Activity- Free-moving Janken Pairs- 10 minutes

ALT/HRT- Introduce and demonstrate activity together, then with a few students.
Wrap-Up- 3 minutes
(Present common mistakes to the whole class. Write the mistaken point on theblackboard, and ask if anybody can see the mistake.) Or-

-What did we talk about today?
-Were there some words you already knew?
-Did you learn any new words?
-What was fun or interesting?
-What was difficult?
-How can we make that easier next time?
Closing- 1 minute
